Murphy Oil

Murphy Oil Corporation NYSE: MUR is a petroleum corporation. It is a S&P 500 company.

As of 2004, the President & CEO is Claiborne Deming.

Murphy is a partner in the Hibernia Oil development off Newfoundland and Labrador.

The company operates a chain of retail gasoline outlets marketed under the name Murphy USA. Many of its stores are co-located at Wal-Mart locations. These stations sometimes offer a discount to consumers of 3 cents ( 5 cents when a new store has just opened) a gallon by purchasing a gift card from Wal-Mart, or by using a Wal-Mart credit card.

Corporate headquarters are in El Dorado, Arkansas.

At the end of August, 2005, Hurricane Katrina damaged part of the large Murphy facility in Chalmette, Louisiana, resulting in a large oil spill in the area.

The United Kingdom subsidiary is Murco Petroleum Ltd.
