Muriel Porter

Muriel Porter (born 1948) is an Anglican laywoman based in Melbourne, Australia. She is the author of several books including the controversial The New Puritans : the rise of fundamentalism in the Anglican Church and a frequent contributor to The Age newspaper, where she writes mostly about issues within the Anglican Church of Australia. She is a critic of fundamentalism and megachurches and is an advocate of the ordination of women.

Porter began a career in journalism as a cadet at the Sydney Morning Herald, and worked for a number of different newspapers including the Cambridge Evening News.
More recently, Porter was a member of staff at RMIT University in their journalism program.
