Drawing of a Murray cod?

This drawing shows a combination of features of Murray Cod and Trout Cod

The markings are generally consistant with Murray cod, but the short lower jaw is a distinctive feature of the Trout Cod. Also the image shows signs of having been scanned from a poor quality original, the large "spot" on the mid lateral serface is not consistant with either species. The head shape is consistant with a Murray cod, but the image gives the impression of a vertically compressed fish, ie wider than it is deep, whereas both species tend to be more deep bodied, especially in mature individuals which can have characteristicly large, deep bellies.

I recommend this image be withdrawn and a more representative one be located. Nick Thorne 11:07, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Plenty of pics of Murray cod on my hard drive in Canberra, Nick. Codman 12:50, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image

Had a closer look, I reckon it's almost certainly a (rough) drawing of a Trout cod rather than a Murray cod. So it's appropriateness for the Murray cod page is questionable.

I am thinking of asking Gunther Schmida if I can make a drawing out of his photo from the front page of the NFA web site. If he agrees I will put the image in the public domain and post it up. Nick Thorne 05:57, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
