Munterconnaught

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Munterconnaught is a small town off the coast of Lough Ramor, Ireland, County Cavan. Munterconnaught is very proud of its thriving Gaelic Athletic Association club, Munterconnaught Rovers United, who have won the division 4 Cavan final for the past three and a half years in a row. The Munterconnaught GAA crest is of a sheep or goat like creature with one hoof resting on a white ball, with a green hill and lake behind it. The crest symbollises the hinterland, farming, drumlins, livestock and lough Ramour.

Munterconnaught was created when a young farmer sailed all the way from Virginia and up the treacherous waters of the black water, overcoming waterfalls, rapids and the legend of the 'Goblin of Tara', to settle the foundation of the present day village.

Munterconnaught has a very wet climate, where by it receives rain nearly every day of the year. There isn't much growth due to waterlogged fields. It is from this that many people describe the place as miserable, due to the weather, and in fact many people from its surrounding towns mock the village during GAA games by mimicking Oliver Cromwell's famous Quote by saying " To Hell Or To Munterconnaught ".

Local Celebrities includes the well renowned singer songwriter Austin Tighe, and actor Liam Riddley, who had a recurring role as "Muscles" in the television series Glenroe.
