Munroe Smith

(Edmund) Munroe Smith (18541926), was an American jurist and historian, born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Amherst College in 1874 and Columbia Law School in 1877. He received the degree of J.U.D. from the University of Göttingen in 1880.

He filled several posts at Columbia University from 1880 onwards. He was managing editor of the Political Science Quarterly for many years (1886-1893 and 1904-1913).

His works include: Bismarck and German Unity, (1898; second edition, 1910) and Military Strategy Versus Diplomacy in Bismarck's Time and afterwards, (1915).

He wrote articles on Roman law and cognate subjects for the New International Encyclopedia.
