Municipality of Ixtapaluca

Ixtapaluca is a city and its surrounding municipality in the eastern part of the State of México in Mexico. It lies between the Federal District and the western border of the state of Puebla. At the census of 2005 the city had a population of 290,076 and the municipality had a population of 429,033. The area of the municipality is 315.10 km² (121.66 sq mi) and includes numerous smaller communities, the largest of which are San Buenaventura, San Jerónimo Cuatro Vientos, and San Francisco Acuautla. The municipality is part of the Mexico City metropolitan area.

The name Ixtapaluca means "Where the salt gets soaked". It is an important suburb due to the fact that many people that work in Mexico City live in Ixtapaluca, and it has developed recent commercial interest due to this. The current Municipal President is Mario Moreno Conrado, from the Party of the Democratic Revolution. The municipalties of Chalco, Valle de Chalco Solidaridad, Chicoloapan, La Paz, Texcoco, and Tlalmanalco, all located in the state of México, surround Ixtapaluca. It is also next to the state of Puebla.
