Multipurpose community telecenters
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Multipurpose Community Telecenters are facilities that provide public access to a variety of communication and information services. They are promoted by many organisations including the World Bank and the United Nations, as well as developing country governments. Arising from a widespread misconception that technology alone will bring benefits to the poor, many development telecentres have been closed down: Out of 23 of the MCT's built in rural Mexico, only 5 were working 2 years later, a failure rate of 80%.
