A Multiplayer Online Casual Game (MOCG) is an online game in which a number of players interact with one another in a virtual world and are usually pitted against each other in a friendly, dynamic, and fun competition. MOCG's are very popular in East Asia today and some parts of the world. Games like Gunbound, Cafe.com, War Rock, O2Jam, Super Dancer Online, PangYa, Audition Dance Battle and R2Beat are few examples of a Multiplayer Online Casual Game.

[edit] Common features

  • Major aspect of a Multiplayer Online Casual Game is the business model it is using and it was designed for - the Virtual Asset Sales (VAS) model. The VAS model is also known as the "Item Shop", "Avatar Items", "Avatar Shop", "Virtual Shop", "Cash Shop", and other names people call this business model, in China for example it is officially called as Virtual Item Trading or VIT. Simply, this MOCGs allow players to buy in-game items for their Avatars (or characters) using Real-Money or Real Cold Cash, without causing imbalances to the game, because the game was made for that model.
  • Another common feature of MOCGs are that these are based on "rooms" instead of a Persistent World/MMORPG. To be able to play, a player must either create a room and play alone or wait for other players to join, or join someone else's room. Once the room creator starts the game, no one else can join until the match is over. Scores are then computed, experience points given, and in-game money are awarded.
  • Combat against non player characters is not important. All combat, if any, is done in a casual way against other players.
