Mukuro is also the name of a character from Samurai Champloo.

Mukuro is one of the three rulers of Makai in the popular anime and manga series YuYu Hakusho. Her Japanese seiyū is Minami Takayama and her English voice actress is Wendy Powell in the Funimation dub.

Mukuro had a very troubled childhood and youth. She was abandoned at birth, and her adoptive father abused her in the worst of ways. On her birthdays, he would rape her. At the age of seven, she could stand it no longer. The formerly beautiful Mukuro poured acid on her body, scarring her form to escape her father's desires. The entire right side of her body is metal and machinery now. This made her father very angry, and he had her imprisoned. She escaped, but no matter how hard she tried, she could not break the shackles around her wrists.

In order to survive, Mukuro became a ruthless killer. She eventually became strong enough to compete with Raizen, and own a third of Demon World. She assumed the identity of a man and kept it that way for nearly 700 years.

As Raizen is about to pass away and the 500-year-stalemate is about to come to a climactic end, Mukuro calls Hiei to her side. Mukuro says that she will reveal herself... if he manages to defeat Shigure, the man who implanted Hiei's Jagan gan means eye in japanese. It ends up being a tie—a simultaneous death. As Hiei is slowly bleeding to death, Mukuro returns his mother's tear gem to him. It turns out she had it all along. Hiei had lost it long ago, and it had ended up in her possession. Mukuro uses a regeneration tank to bring Hiei back to life. While he is in the tank recovering, Mukuro removes her clothing and reveals everything to him. "Now, as I promised, here I stand, hiding nothing from you." Mukuro makes Hiei her new second-in-command.

When Raizen died, Mukuro's intent was to attack Yomi full-force, and she almost does so. Had Yusuke not intervened, a full-scale war would have broken out. Mukuro agrees to the idea of the tournament, fighting as an individual like everyone else.

In the Tournament, Mukuro rips her mask off, deciding to reveal herself to everyone. In this tournament, she fights Hiei. He used his strongest attack on her, though he said he did not want to, and it is later stated that the dragon is only as powerful as need be for what Hiei wants to achieve, and he did not want to kill her, only to free her. She overcame it, but Hiei's attack ended up breaking Mukuro's shackles off, freeing her from her dark past. In the end, Hiei decides to stay in Demon World.

Mukuro beat Natsume in the semi-finals and ended up losing to Enki in the final match. The reason for Mukuro's loss was blamed on her loss of the hatred which kept her at peak fighting spirit.

Dividing Space — Mukuro has the ability to slice through the entire 3rd dimension using her hands. If the space she cuts through is touched, the enemy will be cut. She uses this technique during her fight with Hiei, slowly creating a razor sharp spider web to trap him.

Mukuro is also able to use energy attacks using her fists and hands, firing off a powerful pink yoki energy.
