Mukdahan

Mukdahan (Thai: มุกดาหาร) [Swan's eye pearl) is the capital of Mukdahan province, Thailand, located in the northeastern (Isan) region of the country, on the banks of the river Mekong. The population of the city was 100,000 in the year 2000. The city was founded in 1770 by Chankinnaree, the Prince of Phonsim, as a satellite town of Udon Thani. The Second Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge across the Mekong to Savannakhet, Laos was completed in December 2006.
