Muirkirk (Eaglais an t-Sléibh in Gaelic) is a small village in East Ayrshire, southwest Scotland.

Located on the eastern edge of Ayrshire, the village of Muirkirk is a historical Covenanter town with a past which boasts of significant industrial production and innovation.

Today little evidence remains of Muirkirk's industrial past but the beauty of the countryside surrounding the village remains as do the healthy benefits of living in such an environment.

Muirkirk is increasingly a centre for leisure, with its golf course, walking trails and caravan park. Muirkirk's people are active in building a community and environment which is attractive and welcoming to visitors.

Today, those who have enjoyed living in a spectacular part of Scotland are proud to invite visitors to enjoy the freedom of the Muirkirk countryside - and privilaged to share with you Muirkirk's proud heritage.

Muirkirk Enterprise Group (MEG) was set up in 1999 with the aim of regenerating Muirkirk following the demise of the iron and coal industries which once had sustained the village. The ongoing aim of MEG is to regenerate the whole village community to provide sustainability, respect and hope for the village for future generations.

Muirkirk & North Lowther Uplands Special Protection Area is an extensive area of moorland extending south from near Darvel in southern Ayrshire to near Kirkconnel in Dumfries and Galloway. The SPA is of outstanding interest for its variety of upland habitats and breeding birds. There are large tracts of blanket bog, wet and dry heaths and upland grasslands which provide a diversity of habitats that supports a rich variety of moorland breeding birds.
