Muhan Khan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sekin Muqan-Qağan (Muhan, Mohan, Mukan, Mukhan, Mokhan, Sijin, Muchu Qaghan, Bek Khan, 木杆) was the second son of Bumen and the third Qaghan. He expanded the Göktürk Empire and secured the borders against the last of the Hua people[citation needed]. During his reign Sogdian merchants from Turpan worked as ambassadors and advisers. The importance of Sogdians cannot be understated in keeping the early Turks safely outside of the Chinese cultural sphere. The Sogdian language and script were used to administer the empire. After his death the title of Qaghan passed to his younger brother Taspar.
