The day before, the Meccans made a collective assassination attempt on Muhammad's life [4].

Muhammad preaching the Doctrines of Monotheism and the threat of the Day of Judgment, did not at first have much success in the city of Mecca. His tribe, the Quraysh, which was in charge of the Kaaba, persecuted and harassed him continuously, until an assassination attempt forced him to flee the city and migrate to Medina.
