Muhammad Jamalul Alam II (1889-1924) was the sultan of Brunei from May 12, 1906 until his death on September 11, 1924. By the time he became sultan, the United Kingdom had established a protectorate over Brunei. During his reign there was a power struggle between himself, the British residents and the nobles. A regency council of two nobles ruled for him until 1918. He was knighted in 1920. As sultan, he strengthened Brunei's police and education systems.
