Muerte a Secuestradores

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Muerte a Secuestradores (English: Death to Kidnappers) or MAS, was a Colombian paramilitary group supported by druglords, gangs and dark politicians. Its primary functions included protecting drugdealers, wealthy landowners and their interests from the powerful Colombian guerrillas like the FARC-EP and M-19, by carrying out selective and massive assassinations and torture to either kidnappers, supporters or family members of those involved with them.

[edit] History

MAS was founded by drug kingpin Pablo Escobar [1] and former General Ramón Emilia Gil Bermúdez in December 2, 1981 in response to the kidnapping of a close friend's daughter, Martha Nieve Ochoa, by M-19 guerrillas. While originally created to counter kidnapping and murder of wealthy landowners and fellow drug lords, MAS soon became a death squad for hiring in its own right. Its primary actions soon became assassinations, torture, and cover-ups.

[edit] Membership

As MAS became Mainstream, many prominent Colombians and government officials became involved, including Attorney Generals, Military officials, Israeli Mercenaries [2], and many other law-enforcement officials like School of the Americas graduate Army Major Julio Barrera Bustos, Chief of Joint Operations in Colombia.
