Dark Sun is a campaign setting featuring a fictional desert world and focussing on themes of ecological disaster, resource depletion, survival of the fittest, slavery, poverty, and the widespread use of psionic abilities. It was introduced by TSR in October, 1990.

The Gold Box series of games were produced by SSI. They shared a common engine that came to be known as the "Gold Box Engine" after the gold boxes in which most games of the series were sold.
