[edit] History
Mu Omicron Gamma was founded on Sunday September 9th, 2001 on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk VA. Inspired by Psalms 133:1 seven men endeavored to promote Godly Brotherhood, Fellowship, and Discipleship on their college campus. Six men founded Mu Omicron Gamma: Immanuel S. Watkins, Jelani K. Lynch, Julian L. Jackson, Alton A. Jamison, Daniel Riggins, and Duane M. Goodrich. Additionally, Austin Gore (the first member to become inducted into Mu Omicron Gamma Christian Fraternity) is recognized as an honorary founder. These founders are affectionately known as "The Sevolution."
The greek letters "Mu-Omicron-Gamma" represent the letters "M-O-G" which acronymize Men of God. Although, the brothers of Mu Omicron Gamma Christian Fraternity sometimes refer to the fraternity as M.O.G., is it not to be confused with Men of God[[1]] Christian Fraternity which is a completely different orgainization.
In addition to promoting Godly Brotherhood, Fellowship, and Discipleship the brothers of Mu Omicron Gamma Christian Fraternity, Inc. hold a vision to develop godly young men of valor into living epistles that will correctly represent the Lord Jesus Christ in a world where he is misrepresented. This is achieved by fervently developing these men to be strong mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, and most of all spiritually. Causing a rite of passage into a godly manhood, professionalism, and effective leadership by way of acknowledging, and fearing God through Godly wisdom and the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. The brothers of Mu Omicron Gamma hold an expectation to refine young men into highly productive men who are full of valor that are needed to be examples to the world in this present day.
The organization has taken a stand to embrace the need that young godly men need to take a stand in a hostile world and proclaim, ‘For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain”, and, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” This is accomplished by way of Biblical teachings, lectures, mentoring, seminars, and social gatherings covering various topics and pertinent subject matter. While experiencing challenges in their colleges and communities, the members of Mu Omicron Gamma strive to offer and facilitate a number of Bible studies, prayer sessions, and days of consecration. These activities are geared toward, but not limited to the strengthening of our members. We have a common declaration toward one another – “Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” (Psalms 133:1).
