MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation, founded by Dr. Richard MacNeal and Mr. Robert Schwendler, developed their first program called SADSAM (Structural Analysis by Digital Simulation of Analog Methods); forerunner of MSC's flagship program, MSC.Nastran. The SADSAM program became known as NASTRAN (NASA Structural Analysis Program); one of the first efforts to consolidate structural mechanics into a single computer program.
