Description |
English: The Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet canal and an outlet from the canal into Lake Borgne, which is a sound on the Gulf of Mexico. The outlet in this photograph is approximately 50 miles (80 km) up the canal from the mouth of the canal into the Gulf and approximately 15 miles (24 km) (straight line) east of New Orleans. This picture is dated 1999, and later satellite photos show a considerable widening of the outlet since that date.
