[edit] Robert De Niro

I have a copy of De Niros ancestry and his mother doesnt have any irish ancestry. His mothers maternal grandparents were German, her paternal grandfather was Dutch and her paternal grandmother was a long settled American with mostly British and French ancestry. Arniep 19:33, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

There is a small amount of info on DeNiro's mother's family here. The info I have is more detailed (from world family tree). If you like I can email it to you. Arniep 23:33, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject hiphop announcement

The current Hip hop collaboration is Rapping.

--Chubdub 15:14, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

You seem to know a lot about golden age hip hop lyricism. So do you think that this assesment of Illmatic is accurate?

Effects on lyricism

Despite its disappointing sales figures, Illmatic made a profound impact on the burgeoning hip hop underground circuit, and marked a major stylistic change in hip hop music by introducing a new standard of lyricism [9]. Prior to the album’s release, hip hop lyricism was mostly defined by two popular forms. One was characterized by a fast-paced Ragga-flow accompanied with a whimsical, often nonsensical lyrical delivery (a trendy style that was popularized by the Brooklyn-based groups Das EFX and The Fu-Schnickens), while the other was characterized by a slurred “lazy drawl” that sacrificed lyrical complexity for clarity and rhythmic cadence (a style that was then common among several popular West Coast hip hop artists, particularly Snoop Doggy Dogg). However, due to its rhythmically-immaculate verbal pace, as well as its intricately-woven and multi-syllabic internal rhyme patterns, Illmatic inspired several rappers to modify their rapping abilities —bringing a renewed focus on lyricism to hip hop[3]. According to musicologist and pianist, Guthrie P. Ramsey, of the University of Pennsylvania, “It set a benchmark for rappers in an artistic field consumed by constantly shifting notions of ‘realness’, authenticity, and artistic credibility”. --Chubdub 17:48, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Years on VSE article

I noticed your edit summary stating "these years are real." I've went through and corrected a number of them which are not real. Are these ALL jokes or do I have to verify every addition to see if they're true? If they're not true, that's crossing the line into vandalizing an article and knowingly adding incorrect facts to it. That's not really tolerated on Wikipedia. If you have a source for your years, please alert me to the page, because as I said, many of the things you've presented are simply not correct. Mike H. [edit] Ethnic groups

I'm sorry for the delay in replying. There is a discussion on the Village Pump page about policy on who should and should not be included on ethnic lists. I thought that as someone who edits such lists, you might want to express your views. Please feel free to e-mail if you would like to discuss further. - Brownlee 17:18, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:14549cposharkeyjuly91977.jpg)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:14549cposharkeyjuly91977.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Genidealingwithfairuse 20:04, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Magasine covers are ok under a very limted set of conditions. Read the tag.Geni 00:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Indeed most magazine covers on wikipedia that are claimed under fair use are copyvios. The key line is "to illustrate the publication of the issue of the magazine in question"Geni 08:28, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

I feel for you, friend (I noted your comment on Geni's page). Wikipedia articles are being decimated under the strict adherence to this policy (which I personally believe to be in error). I note that the user who posted dozens of excellent TV series-related TV Guide images has even quit Wikipedia, possibly in response to this. Even articles on fashion models aren't immune. Pretty soon we won't be allowed to have any illustrations at all - that's my prediction. 23skidoo 12:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:JersyJoe.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:JersyJoe.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 05:45, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Regarding Dorothy Miller: Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content. It is considered vandalism. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. N. Harmon 15:48, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Reading the discussion of the Dorothy Miller article, rather than blanking the Dorothy Miller article and creating one for Lillian Miller, what would have been more correct in this case is to move the article from Dorothy to Lillian. Thank you for being bold and getting the article correct and in the right namespace, though. That's the important thing, and the cleanup can be done on the back end easy enough. For future reference, though, completely blanking articles is not best practice. —C.Fred (talk) 14:47, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Katia lund.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Katia lund.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 23:05, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 50

Is a number! 50 Cent is a rapper. Remember if you write articles you want to use the full name of the entertainer (50 Cent, Curtis Jackson, Jackson, the rapper, the musician)! This is the proper way of expressing the name of the person. "50 said this!" How can a number say something? 50 Cent said this! Is that better? I look for spamming links, weasel words and numerous grammar mistakes. I am just as guilty as many others, but I go back in corret them. But anyway, good editing and continue working with Wikipedia. :) LILVOKA 15:47, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, next time don't "dare" another user to place vandalism on a page. I've followed the comments made by the two users, and there is a possibility that they're the same person. I'm almost certain that JayCyYoung is a user at the Fanhome messageboards, same username. Anyway, if you want to follow through on your sockpuppet suspicions, I recommend placing an IP-check request at Wikipedia:Checkuser. Cheers, --Madchester 04:38, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Birth records

Well, I am a subscriber to Ancestry.com, which has California, Texas, Minnesota and North Carolina birth records (only, unfortunately). As well as all the US censuses prior to and including 1930. This [1] is a free version of the California birth record. These have been incredibly helpful with actor entries and getting the straight story on names/places/dates, and, in fact, have indeed helped us "scoop" and correct out the IMDB's info. If you were born in California, Minnesota, Texas and (but not or) North Carolina, you should be able to find yours. California, as I said, for free. :) Mad Jack 03:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music

Whats up? Hi, I'm trying to gather some more interest and support for the Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music. Please check out the topics and lets get our WikiProject to function better. Recently, I've taken an interest in the Wikipedia:WikiProject hip hop and I consider that WikiProject to be better developed. I am now writing to usernames on the hiphopWP who might be interested in helping with the punkmusicWP. Hopefully we can all work together to improve articles relating to punk as has been done well with hip hop. Finally, I am trying to gather support and opinions concerning the punk house article and specifically the Theta Beta Potata article which is currently in AfD (x2) at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Theta Beta Potata (second nomination). [edit] License tagging for Image:Newcouple2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Newcouple2.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Colbert

My mistake, I apologize. I must have misread the phrase "available until November 16th" as "available on Nov. 16th" when I was looking at the online preview. I'll try and get the magazine today. Sorry I edited in a bit of hurry, and didn't offer a fuller explanation -- there was actually just a discussion about the pronunciation of the name on he talk page a little while ago, which mentions the quote in the Charleston Post article: Originally, his name was pronounced COL-bert. "But my dad always wanted to be Col-BEAR ... so he said to us, 'You can be anything you want.' And so we made a choice, and it's about half and half. The girls for the most part are like, 'Get over it, you're Colbert,' but I was so young when this choice was given to us, I think that if somebody woke me up in the middle of the night and slapped me across the face I'd still say Stephen Col-BEAR.' I believe there's another mention of this in the article's references somewhere, I just need to find where it is exactly. If I'm wrong, and it's just this one, then I suppose it might not be a contradiction; the Charleston Post quote definately seems to imply that he made the switch at the time the choice was offered to him by his father, who died when he was ten, but if he directly said something different in Rolling Stone, it makes sense to go with that. Let me go double check. Again, sorry about the RV. -- Bailey(talk) 16:48, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I've given it a try in this edit. I still want to add a little to the following paragraph tonight about Colbert's personal politics, so when I do that, I should be be able to rephrase to avoid starting both paragraphs with "although". See if this looks ok to you. -- Bailey(talk)

[edit] "Foreign" progams in Category:First-run syndicated television programs

Hi. I noticed that you have been adding the category First-run syndicated television programs to many television shows' pages. I've removed it from the pages of programs that were created for and originally broadcast on networks outside the United States, because I think that categorizing them according to how they were broadcast in the U.S. is inappropriately U.S.-centric — see my discussion at Category talk:First-run syndicated television programs. I'm dropping you a line here because I wasn't sure whether you would see the comment on the category talk page — but I thought you should know before you add the category to any more "foreign" TV show articles. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Thank you. [edit] Wikiproject Actors and Filmakers

Hey see my proposals at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Actor and Filmmakers and the main WP Film and Biography talk page. Know anybody who is interested? Actors and all film people articles need a body on wikipedia to upkeep them asthey need more focus -it would be a part of Biogrpahy and Film. If you are interested or know somebody who would be, please let them know and whether you think it is a good progession for the project or not. Please leave your views at the council or biogrpahy main talk page. THanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
