MRAP (armored vehicle)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) are armoured fighting vehicles that are designed from the ground up and specifically built to survive IEDs and ambushes.

Usually built with a "V" shaped hull that assists deflection of a mine or IED blast away from the vehicle’s interior keeping the passengers safe and the vehicle intact. They have been used by various militaries around the world.

A variety of contracts have been placed by the United States for this type of vehicle in response to the situation in the Iraq War. The concept is to replace Humvee type vehicles with a more robust, survivable vehicle.
