Mr. Tot aĉetas mil okulojn (~Mr. Tot buys a thousand eyes) is the third novel originally written in Esperanto by Jean Forge. It appeared in 1931 (242 pages). It is a fantasy adventure novel. However the absolute artistry of the characterizaions, the pure literary language, and the well-structuredness of the novel raise it high above the mass of novels of its type. In this novel the erstwhile excessive use of suffixes disappears, which, by the way, is something most noticeable in his Saltego trans Jarmiloj.
- A detective novel, but not a hair raising bloody fantasy. It is so modern, so richly saturated with psychological undertones and pulsating life, that its value greatly exceeds the standards that one generally has for novels of its genre. (Jobo L M 1931, p. 160.) (L M = Literatura Mondo ??)
Mr. Tot aĉetas mil okulojn is included in William Auld's Basic Esperanto Reading List.
