[edit] Plot Synopsis
The episode starts off in a junkyard where a hobo witnesses the murder of Chicklet, a man who was going to testify against the drug dealer, Karpov. The murderer uses a taser to stun the victim and then uses his gun to bludgeon the victim to death. Soon, police arrive along with Mr. Monk and his assistant, Natalie. During the investigation, a policeman named Ryan Sharkey insinuates that he was having an affair with Capt. Stottlemeyer's wife. This angers Stottlemeyer and causes him to punch Sharkey. Sharkey spits out blood and a tooth and contaminates the crime scene. Afterwards, Stottlemeyer asks Monk to go follow his wife to find out what she is doing. Monk and Natalie see Karen Stottlemeyer meet another man at the mall and take pictures of this meeting.
Later, the murderer strikes again, this time, he throws the hobo out of a third story window. Fortunately, the hobo lands on a soft box and survives the fall. Lt. Disher then takes the hobo in to do a lineup. The Captain, after seeing the pictures taken by Monk, ruins the lineup by fighting Sgt. Sharkey who was also in the lineup. After the fight, Monk sees Sharkey eating an apple and chewing with the left side of his mouth and realizes that Sharkey was the murderer. Since the the Captain was right handed, he would have punched Sharkey on the left side of his face, that would mean Sharkey would have to chew with the right side of his mouth. Since his fight with Chicklet caused him to scatter his own DNA all over the crime scene, Sharkey needed a way to keep suspicion off of himself. He picked a fight with Captain Stottlemeyer so there would be a reason for his DNA at the crime scene.
In the end, Captain Stottlemeyer's wife reveals that the man she was seeing is a divorce lawyer. She files for divorce.
