Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

While celebrating Lt. Disher's birthday at the station, Natalie finds out that her date to her brother Jonathan's wedding has come down with an appendicitis and cannot go. Randy offers to go with her instead, and Natalie reveals that she is a somewhat estranged member of a very rich family of toothpaste tycoons.

Randy and Natalie go to the hotel in Pebble Beach, California for a wedding. While they are there, Randy is run down by a car in the parking lot. Capt. Stottlemeyer and Monk drive up to investigate, and meet Lt. Bristo (Mik Bristo), the investigating detective in the case. Monk notices the condensation on the ground and realizes that the car had been idling for a time: the driver had been aiming specifically for Randy. Bristo speculates that the assailant was member of Natalie's family, as the keys were unmarked and thus whoever took them must have had specific knowledge of which car they belonged to. Monk also notices a strange green mud inside the car, which the detectives are unable to identify.

With Randy incapacitated, Monk fills in as Natalie's date. They meet Theresa Scott (Ashley Williams), Jonathan's fiancée at lunch. Stottlemeyer finds out the wedding photographer has not shown up, and offers to fill in, taking photos of potential suspects in the process. Monk and Natalie meet Jonathan (Rob Benedict), who explains that Theresa's parents were killed in a PanAm crash. Monk remarks that her story is impossible as PanAm went out of business years before she said the plane crash occurred.

A body is discovered that evening in the hotel spa. Monk identifies him as the missing photographer by the discoloration under his fingertips. Bristo goes to get a search warrant for his studio. In the morning, he and Stottlemeyer go to execute the warrant while Natalie and Monk attend the wedding. Bristo and Stottlemeyer find evidence that the photographer had discovered a dark secret from Theresa's past: she was a "black widow" who marries and then kills her husbands for their money. Randy was the investigating officer in that case, and thus he was the only person who could have identified her.

Monk takes a dance with Theresa and confronts her with the facts, which she thinly denies, following it with a threat. Theresa wants to leave with Jonathan on their "honeymoon of death," so Monk has to stall her while Stottlemeyer goes to get Randy to see if he can identify Theresa as his assailant. Randy makes it at the last minute and recognizes Theresa immediately. She attempts to ransom the family jet for Jonathan's life, but Natalie incapacitates her and she is taken into custody.

In the end, Natalie's mother Peggy Davenport (Holland Taylor) relents from her long-held view that Natalie's marriage to Mitch was illegitimate, and finally places their wedding photo on top of her piano, signifying her approval.
