Mr. Capone-E
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mr. Capone-E is a rapper and producer from Los Angeles, California. He records for the Thump Records and Hi-Power labels.[1] According to his website, he has sold over 500,000 records.[2] Capone-E has collaborated with such hip hop performers as NB Ridaz, Lil Flip, and Nate Dogg. He is most noted for his longstanding feud with Capone that began over the similarity of their names, and for his integration of Motown Sound into the Chicano rap genre, the most famous example of which is his rendition of the Rosie & the Originals classic "Angel Baby". Although his style is generally considered Chicano rap, his ambiguous ethnicity may have caused him to declaim the genre, preferring to style himself as a "Sureño rapper".[3]
In an interview with Teen Angels magazine, Capone-E claims to have a criminal record. According to the Sureño Rap website, he runs with the San Gabriel Valley street gang Varrio Cyclones.[4]
Besides his criticism of Capone-E's musical abilities, his rival Capone has also accused him of "not even [being] Latino". The interviewer then asked, "But in all fairness, even if he's Middle Eastern, he's still brown, its still brown on brown violence it can come to. Is it just that you don't like that he does Chicano rap?", to which Capone responded, "Nowadays, you got guys like this dude, dressing like a Mexican dude. He's pimping our culture, the way I see it. And then people, you know, think he's a real cholo."[5]
This interview, along with bulletin board and internet forum posts, have fueled rumors that Capone-E is of Pakistani descent, a charge he has not denied or admitted to.
