Mozilla Add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/) is a website which offers add-ons for Mozilla software, including Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey (formerly the Mozilla Application Suite) and Mozilla Sunbird. These add-ons include extensions, themes, dictionaries, search engine plugins and plugins.

It is the official place to get Mozilla add-ons as Mozilla software includes links to Mozilla Add-ons, however add-ons can also be installed from other websites.

Mozilla Add-ons is also informally known as AMO or a.m.o an abbreviation of its URL. Formerly, it was known as UMO as the URL was update.mozilla.org

The site has undergone several changes since the first launch.

  • A major rewrite of the public pages was launched on April 4, 2006
  • A visual refresh of the Firefox pages was pushed on 2006-10-24 to correspond with the launch of Firefox 2 and the newly styled mozilla.com

The next version of the site, codenamed Remora, is a complete rewrite of both the developer and public pages, and is targeted at early 2007.

In contrast to mozdev.org which provides free hosting for Mozilla-related projects, this website is targeted to end-users, not just software developers.

The common plugins are Acrobat Reader, Flash Player, Java, Quicktime, RealPlayer, Shockwave, Windows Media Player [1]. As of January 2007, there are over 2900 extensions and over 400 themes hosted on the site.
