Moweaqua Coal Mine Disaster

The Moweaqua Coal Mine Disaster happened on December 24, 1932. in Moweaqua, Illinois. It was caused by a methane gas explosion killed 54 miners. The Moweaqua Coal Mine Museum (which was founded in 1986) contains many mining artifacts from the time that the mine operated.
