Moves (magazine)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moves was a wargaming magazine originally published by SPI, who also published Strategy & Tactics. S&T developed into a military history magazine featuring a new game in each issue, and so Moves was intended to be the house organ of SPI - in other words, focusing on games published by SPI and carrying articles dealing with variants, strategy, and reviews of new products.

Founded by Jim Dunnigan, Moves began publication in 1972. Changing trends in game play led to the decline of SPI and the magazine in the early 1980s. It was acquired by TSR, along with the rest of SPI's assets, when SPI ran into financial difficulties. The final issue (#60) of the original run was published in December of 1981.

A second run of issues began publication in 1991 with issue #61, when 3W ceased publication of The Wargamer in favor of restarting the well-known the Moves title. It was bought, along with Fire & Movement and Strategy & Tactics by Decision Games and continued publishing into the 21st Century.
