Shown above is a section of the Xianqi (or Chinese Chess) board.
The central red horse have 8 (eight) possible moves, highlighted by blue lines. The allowed moves with respect to other pieces have their paths highlighted in yellow, and the disallowed moves are highlighted with teal.

Note: This diagram is not entirely accurate. The horse piece does not move two units horizontally or vertically and then one unit perpendicular from its previous movement. Instead, it moves one unit horizontally or vertically, and then one unit diagonally. The difference is that if there is a piece exactly two units away horizontally or vertically from the horse piece, then that piece does not impede the movement of the horse piece. —Lowellian (talk) 08:21, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)
