[edit] City/suburb

Since when is Mountain Brook not a suburb of Birmingham? Someone edited the reference and changed it to say a "city in jefferson county". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.220.228.3 (talk • contribs) 06:02, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Mountain Brook has never been a suburb of Birmingham to my knowledge. It has been a fully operating and governing city since its incorporation in 1942. AuburnPilottalk 06:05, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Mountain Brook was founded as, and remains, a suburb of Birmingham. It's local government has no bearing on that definition. (From Barron's Dictionary of Real Estate Terms: "A town or unincorporated developed area in close proximity to a city. Suburbs, largely residential, are often dependent on the city for employment and support services; generally characterized by low-density development relative to the city." --Dystopos 14:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Well that doesn't in anyway define Mountain Brook, which was not founded as a suburb, and is neither a town or unincoroporated developed area. The City of Mountain Brook defines itself as such, and it's article should as well. AuburnPilottalk 15:53, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

It's a suburb.

  • And it was founded as a suburb. The terms "city" and "suburb" are NOT exclusive. --Dystopos 21:21, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
