Mountcharles

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mountcharles is a village 6 km from Donegal town, Ireland, on the Killybegs road.

The village is named for the Mountcharles family of Slane, Co. Meath, who owned a now unoccupied estate in the vicinity.

Its Irish name, Teamhnach an tSalainn (town of the salt), refers to an old practice of running seawater down "salthill" on dry days and collecting the salt after the water had evaporated.
