Mountain Creek State High School (MCSHS) is a co-educational, state secondary school in Mountain Creek, Queensland. Mountain Creek State High School is the largest and most popular school on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Located in the suburb of Mooloolaba, 100 kilometres north of Brisbane, Mountain Creek has grown from an enrolment of 360 in its foundation year in 1995 to 2050 students in 2006.

In 2000 the school was recognised as one of Queensland's most progressive and innovative as a winner of Education Queensland's Showcase For Excellence Award . The school is organised around four Sub-Schools that are designed to break down the large size of the school. Consequently, each academic cohort of about 275 students in the middle school is taught by the same group of about 25 teachers. The school is therefore able to offer all the benefits of a large school (broad range of subject choice and co-curricular activities) while enjoying the advantages of a small school (close personal relationships between teachers and students).

The school's major objective in the next twelve months is to bring a greater international focus to its curriculum and operations. In an increasingly globalised community it is important for young people to develop an enhanced understanding of other cultures and races.

Our state of the art facilities, sophisticated ICT network, willingness to embrace innovation and change, and, above all, highly educated and dedicated staff, are what provides the essential difference at Mountain Creek High.

THE SCHOOL'S DIRECTION

The School's Statement of Purpose successfully defines our direction:

"Mountain Creek State High School: An innovative and socially responsible school maximizing learning outcomes for young people in a safe, secure and well-ordered environment to prepare them for a productive future of active citizenship and employment in a global society."

The school is strongly focussed on ensuring that student outcomes are not only maximised but that they surpass state standards.

As an educational institution, we have developed an organisational framework to clearly identify the educational environment in which students work. This framework is characterised by:

   *
clear academic and social behaviour goals
   *
     order and discipline
   *
     high expectations
   *
     pervasive caring
   *
     community support
   *
     high quality teaching
   *
high quality and quantity learning time
   *
     a coherently organised curriculum
   *
     regular and monitored homework
   *
     opportunities for student excellence
   *
     appropriate reward systems
   *
clear communication between home and school
   *
a wide variety of co-curricular options

We believe our students should be:

   *
     Committed learners
   *
     Goal oriented
   *
     Self-disciplined
   *
     Responsible and personally accountable
   *
     Well behaved
   *
     Take pride in personal appearance
   *
Caring and respectful of selves and others
   *
     Honest and reliable

The school’s students pride themselves on success and achievement. Not only is there emphasis on academic achievement but also on sporting achievement (where students have the opportunity of representing the school in swimming, athletics, cross-country and 32 other sports played at inter-school level), on debating and public speaking and on involvement in music and performing arts.

The school places major emphasis on the use of Information Technology with the Split-Shift timetable providing students with better access to computers than is possible in traditional schools. The school is equipped with fibre optic cabling which links all buildings to a single information network and is connected to the internet, and the Department’s wide area network, via Education Queensland’s Connect-Ed program.

The school is regarded as one of Australia’s most innovative with representatives of many schools and universities visiting each year.

It is our hope that students graduating from our school will be:

   *
     Employable
   *
Qualified for further education & training
   *
     Skilled in ICT
   *
     Socially responsible
   *
     Self motivated
   *
     Socially, culturally & globally aware
   *
     Environmentally active
   *
     Hard working and committed
