Mountain City is a city in Hays County, Texas, United States. The population was 671 at the 2000 census.

Mountain City is located at 30°2′24″N, 97°53′27″W (30.039930, -97.890970)GR1. This is between Kyle and Buda, about 20 miles southwest of Austin.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 671 people, 215 households, and 202 families residing in the city. The population density was 563.2/km² (1,455.1/mi²). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 183.0/km² (472.7/mi²). There were 215 households out of which 55.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 86.5% were married couples living together, 5.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 6.0% were non-families. 4.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 0.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.12 and the average family size was 3.23.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 4.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $82,853, and the median income for a family was $84,026. Males had a median income of $58,000 versus $40,357 for females. The per capita income for the city was $28,003. About 2.0% of families and 2.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.4% of those under age 18 and 11.1% of those age 65 or over.
