Mount Morrison is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the state of California, in the southwestern United States. It rises to the south of Convict Lake, in the Sherwin Range, near the town of Mammoth Lakes.
The mountain was named after Sheriff Robert Morrison, who was killed near Convict Lake on September 23, 1871, as part of a posse pursuing escaped convicts.
The mineral fulgurite appears at the top of the mountain, due to numerous lightning strikes.
