Mount Feathertop is the second-highest mountain in the Australian state of Victoria. It rises to 6,306 feet (1,922 meters) AHD. The mountain is covered by alpine grass at the top, with no trees and few shrubs. Snow remaining in the gullys running off the summit in spring give the appearance of feathers - hence the name "Feathertop". There are several ways to reach the summit, including the Razorback Spur, Bungalow Spur and the North-West Spur, the relative ease of some of these making this a popular walk in summer. The proximity of the mountain to a popular ski resort on Mount Hotham, has led to it becoming a popular back country skiing destination. There are a number of huts in the area, the newest being Federation Hut, replaced in 2005 after it was devastated by the 2003 bushfires.
