Mount Chyuvash

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mount Chyuvash was the site of a month long siege by Muscovite Cossacks of the army of the Khan of Siberia during October 1582. There were four separate Cossack attempts to storm the fort with the fourth being successful on October 23rd displacing the Khan's massed army of Siberian Tatar troops together with Khanty, Mansi and Nogay Horde tribesmen. Following the battle the Khan's forces were driven south before eventually regrouping two years later and pushing the Cossacks out. The Cossacks were to return and eventually defeat the Khan and conquer the whole of Siberia by 1640.

Mount Chyuvash is in the Tyumen Oblast of the Russian Federation.
