Mount Arreat

Mount Arreat is a fictional mountain, in the Diablo II: Lord of Destruction universe (World of Sanctuary), by Blizzard Entertainment.
Mount Arreat was made at the fringe of the Barbarian homelands to house the Worldstone, a massive scintilling crystal-rock of primal energies that maintained the balance of the World of Sanctuary and prevented the beings of the Burning Hells and the High Heavens from completely enveloping the mortal realm into their respective folds.
At the summit of Mount Arreat lie three statues surrounding an altar - the Altar of the Heavens. The three statues encompass the three guardians of the entrance to the innards of Mt. Arreat: Korlic, Madawc and Talic. They are three barbarians, 'spirits of the nephilim' chosen to guard Mt. Arreat and block the entry of anyone that is 'unworthy' to stand in the presence of the Worldstone. These guardians are known to the Barbarians as the Ancients.
Mount Arreat is comprised of several places represented in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. The base of the mountain lies a quaint city, called Harrogath, the last bastion of the Barbarians under siege from Baal, the Lord of Destruction. Past Harrogath lies the Arreat Plateau, further lies the Crystalline Passage which leads further into the Frozen River and the Glacial Trail. From the Glacial Trail, the only path is through the Frozen Tundra, which leads again into the mounain, via the Ancients Way. The Ancients Way leads up into the Arreat Summit, and through the Summit, lies the Worldstone Keep and finally the Worldstone Chamber which houses the immense Worldstone. To get into the Worldstone Keep, you must first prove to the Ancients that you are a worthy warrior. After defeating them in battle, the gate to the keep will open up.
The name "Arreat" may be inspired by the Central Asian Mount Ararat, which is also enormous and glacier-covered.
