Moulton, Northamptonshire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moulton is a village in the Daventry district of the county of Northamptonshire in England. It is situated about 4 miles north of Northampton which is in the Midlands, Northampton is one of Europe's largest towns. It, too, has been taken over by the expansion of the town although it still retains its village identity. It is thought that the village has its origins in Saxon times, although the main features of the present church are Norman or later. There is one major school in Moulton which serves many other surrounding small villages in that area. It was also the 18th century home of William Carey

Moulton itself is a village of narrow winding lanes, lined by stone-built cottages and houses, nowadays with traffic calming and one-way systems. The stone-built Gothicky Methodist Chapel of 1835 with its pretty arched windows is next to the old school of 1878, now used by the Moulton Theatre. Unfortunately the tranquillity of this view is somewhat spoilt today by the level of traffic, mostly cars, snaking through the village’s narrow lanes.

Moulton has a population of over 3000. The centre of Moulton houses the Parish Church and some shops, such as co-op and a post office. In the area of Moulton Leys in the south, Kettering Road takes the residents from Moulton to Northampton town centre.
