The MOTOFONE is a candybar style mobile phone from Motorola, based on the SCPL design platform. The GSM Motofone F3, was released in on 28 November 2006; at the time, Motorola said it would be available internationally "in the coming weeks," and the CDMA Motofone F3c would be available Q4 2006. Unlike most phones, the Motofone is designed to appeal to the low-end market, making it less functional, but also less expensive than most phones. The main purpose of this phone is call handling.

[edit] Display technology

The Motofone is the first mobile phone to use electrophoretic display technology, also known as electronic paper. Motorola uses the term ClearVision to describe the new display, which is manufactured using E Ink's electrophoretic imaging film. The electronic paper main display helps enable the phone's thinness (no glass), longer battery life, and outdoor viewability (paper-like reflectivity). It has a backlight for the keypad and a slit that throws the backlight on the screen so that the display can be seen in dark.
