"Mother and Father" is a song by American singer Madonna from her 2003 album American Life. The song was released as a remix later on "Rauhofer Live @ The Roxy 4" April 2005, a remix compilation by Peter Rauhofer. The radio remix by Johnny Rocks was aired once but to this day remains unreleased.

[edit] The song

Like she did before in "Promise To Try", "Inside Of Me" and "Mer Girl", Madonna sings about her mothers death. But though the lyrics are sad and emotional, the song has an uptempo dance beat. Madonna's voice is high pitched as if it were a little girl singing about her parents.

In an interview Madonna said about the song: "It's a way to free me from the pain for my mother's death, but I'm not asking for a medal for finding my way in life or for compassing for suffering so much. It isn't an excuse like 'I'm like this because I've suffered so much when I was a child.' These excuses are rubbish, because you have to be responsible of all the things you do in your whole life."

To complete the set about her family life, Madonna included the song in her 2004 Re-Invention Tour.

[edit] Charts

In August 2005 the Rauhofer mix peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play chart making it the 7th Top 10 hit from the "American Life" album on that chart. Madonna is the only recording artist ever to have had 7 Top 10 hits from the same album on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play chart. The song charted with its appearance on "Rauhofer Live @ The Roxy 4".
