The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant began in 1985 and still continues today. Winners represent Nigeria in most international beauty pageants, such as Miss World and Miss Universe. The pageant was created by Silverbird Entertainment.
The 2001 MBGN, Agbani Darego, won the 2001 Miss World pageant. She is the first and only Black African to accomplish this feat.
In 2007, Munachi Nwanknwo will represent Nigeria in Miss World, held in November.
The first runner-up, Ibinabo Johnson, will go on to compete in Miss Universe, in Mexico City, on May 28.
