Moss is a four-piece band from Amsterdam, the Netherlands that plays alternative acoustic pop music. In February 2007 the band releases its debut album The Long Way Back on indie label Excelsior Recordings.
[edit] Biography
From 1999 to 2001 Marien Dorleijn plays with Dutch alternative band Caesar. During this period he hooks up with Bob Gibson, the band’s light engineer. The two start writing songs together. In 2001 Dorleijn leaves Caesar to focus a new project with Gibson. Soon the duo is joined by Finn Kruyning and Jasper Verhulst. The newly formed band is named Moss.
The band’s first recordings appear on compilation album Unsigned – College Radio – Alternative Rock Song in 2003. This cd is the initiative of the Dutch Pop Institute and Excelsior Recordings. Moss contributes two songs, produced by Frans Hagenaars. The band shows promise and Excelsior Recordings picks up the band. Coincidentally this is also Caesar’s label home.
It is also with producer Hagenaars that the band initiates the recording of their debut album. The sessions start in September 2006. The album, titled The Long Way Back is due for release in February of ‘07.
In December 2006 the band contributes a track to the EP Coverclub Christmas Edition. Moss cover the Ronettes song I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus (download song).
