Moskvitch 408

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Moskvitch 408 was a car from Soviet manufacturer Moskvitch introduced in 1964.

It was powered by a 1360 cc cam-in-block engine with overhead valves. The assembly of the engines was done by UZAM in Ufa.

It was followed by the 412 which instead used a 1478 cc engine with more up-to-date chain driven overhead cam.

The Moskvitch 408 was the last car by the brand to have vertical rear lights. It was also the first of the two Moskvitch models to have tail-fins (the other being the 412).

Two examples were built of a Moskvich 408 Tourist — a 2+2 style hard-top cabriolet. These were fitted with an electronically controlled fuel injection system.[citation needed]

[edit] 408 compared with 412

The original Moskvitch 412 of 1967-69 had a chassis identical to that of the 408 of 1964. The only differences between 408 and 412 were the engines and the interior. This can be confusing, because there are no external differences between the two cars.

Here are the main differences between the Moskvitch 08 and the Moskvitch 412:
