Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello, Mortimer elias the 33rd, I'm Kafziel. I noticed you were new, or at least that nobody has officially welcomed you yet, so let me be the first to say hello, give you some tips, and share a few useful links.

Here are some links you might find helpful:

I know they're a little boring (okay... a lot boring) but they may come in handy someday.

I give every newcomer two tips for adding content: cite references whenever possible, and try to set aside any personal points of view. Aside from that, just be patient and receptive, ask questions whenever you need to, and have a good time. If you want to experiment with coding or see how articles will look before you post them, you can use your own private sandbox at User:Mortimer elias the 33rd/sandbox for any tests you want to do. (The link will turn blue after you start the page.)

Now that you have your own user name, you can sign your comments on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically stamp your user name, the time, and the date. That will help other users reply to your posts. You may also want to fill out your user page to tell others a bit about yourself.

I hope this information is useful to you, and I'm looking forward to seeing your contributions. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me for help. Good luck, and happy editing! Kafziel Talk 16:37, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] letting you know about some vandalism

Hey there, I noticed an edit by your account that inserted some vandalism into an article that I'm watching, shown here. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'm going to assume that you're NOT the same person as the guy who keeps doing the same identical vandalism. Instead, perhaps you're an honest editor and that you logged on at a public place (like a computer lab or something) and forgot to log out when you left, and that the guy who normally does this vandalism used the same computer after you and was automatically logged in; thus allowing him to do his normal vandalism under your name. If this is the case, I would suggest clicking the 'log out' link whenever you're finished, so that random people can't abuse your name/reputation or get you blocked. --Atari2600tim (talkcontribs) 06:19, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't actually think it's likely that Herb edited from an unattended computer in a computer lab, but it's polite to optimistically assume the best, even for someone who matched the rest of his pattern and all that. Oh well. Also, I'm not sure who you're talking about when you say someone that I refer to as anonymous, since I didn't call anyone anonymous in this message. --Atari2600tim (talkcontribs) 19:49, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I referred to this person as "anonymous" because that is how User:Thoric referred to the anonymous contributions of that anonymous poster who you refer to as "Herb" in the project history and sort of in the censored discussion page (which, by the way, makes absolutely no sense since the policy says to discuss changes), but who has not in any way been proven to be "Herb", but who we know to be "anonymous" -- also, we know that several other users (User:Lancombz, User:Jlambert for instance) have also had opinions regarding this based on a review of the article's history. Also, based on recent tagging as being a sock-puppet of "H. Elwood Gilliland", who is not a user of Wikipedia, but I assume is in reference to the author, Herb Gilliland, I am guessing that many different users of Wikipedia have been flagged as sock puppets even though they may not necessarily be. These are actions by the administrator User:Nandesuka, who is obviously the one tagging these people based on my observations of the number of sock-puppet tags distributed by this person because I did a search for "Herb Gilliland" and discovered User:Herbert_Elwood_Gilliland_III and as well as huge list of sock-puppets of a certain User:Young_Zaphod. I am assuming by fighting this administrator, I am in danger of somehow being incorrectly flagged and grouped into the same lot as the rest of the users. I am wondering if User:Nandesuka runs nightly web bots which tag anyone who posts 1993 to this article as a sock puppet of one of the above mentioned users associated with User:Nandesuka's blocks regarding this article. Did you think that writing any of that stuff would improve your credibility moreso than just writing truthful stuff into articles and giving valid support for questionable edits? --Atari2600tim (talkcontribs) 13:36, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] that's not what vandalism is

Actually, I'm a person who reviewed this link while reading about MUDs and took a look at the article history. Then I saw that someone (this person you refer to as "anonymous") claimed that the copyrights are for 1993, not 1994. In the interest of accuracy, I contacted (by telephone, I should add) the U.S. Copyrights office and inquired about the "Online Creation" or "OLC" contribution by Herb Gilliland and Chris Woodward. According to the U.S. Copyrights office, OLC was first published in October of 1993. By looking at the history of this article, I can see this has been a "point of debate" for a very long time (about a year, perhaps longer). Why are you lying to me and trying to claim that this is vandalism? Mortimer elias the 33rd 14:56, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
