Morocco has only participated in the Eurovision Song Contest once, in 1980 when Israel did not participate in the contest. After a poor result, the king of Morocco vowed that the country would never return to the contest. Although not physically in Europe, Morocco is eligible to enter the contest as a member of the European Broadcasting Union. Morocco is the only African participant in Eurovision history, and currently has no plans to return to Eurovision.
