Moritz Ludwig George Wichmann

Moritz Ludwig George Wichmann is the name given in 1935 to a crater on the Moon in honor of a German astronomer who died in 1859.

The crater is located at latitude 7.5S and longitude 38.1W, with a diameter of 10.0 kilometers (6.3 miles). Wichmann is a bowl-shaped, lunar impact crater. It is located in the southern half of Oceanus Procellarum on a low plateau formed from a wrinkle-wridge. There is a small mountain chain to the north that curves away to the west; most likely the rim of a worn crater that was buried by the lava flow forming the maria. Additional low mountains lie to the south of the plateau on which Wichmann is situated.
