Morgion (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Morgion was a doom metal band from Orange County, California, United States. The band was formed in 1990 by Dwayne Boardman (Guitars), Jeremy Peto (Vocals/Bass) and Rhett Davis (Drums) with Mike Davis (Guitars) as a death metal band in the vein of Autopsy, Entombed and Morbid Angel. They recorded their debut Rabid Decay demo in 1991. In 1993 it was succeeded by the Travesty 7" in 1993.

In 1994, Morgion slowed down and added Ed Parker (Keyboards) and replaced Mike Davis with Bobby Thomas on guitar. They recorded another demo, which was later released by Relapse Records as Among Majestic Ruin in 1997. In 1998, Thomas and Parker were both replaced by Gary Griffith (Nepenthe) on guitars and keyboards. Solinari was recorded and released on the same label in 1999. After touring for the album and other setbacks the band went on hiatus.

In 2002, the band resurfaced. Peto was fired and replaced with Justin Christian on Bass. "Morgion" ended their recording relationship with Relapse and signed to the Dark Symphonies label in July 2003. A new album was released in April of 2004 titled "Cloaked by Ages, Crowned in Earth," which was a progression from the Solinari album with a stronger focus on atmosphere, mood, clean vocals and acoustics. Shortly after the album's release, Griffith and Boardman both left the band. The rest of Morgion split at the end of 2004.

Facts: Morgion is also the name of the god of plague and disease in the world of Dragonlance, coinciding with their debut Rabid Decay and is where the band took their name from. Their album 'Solinari' is also named after a god in the Dragonlance world, Solinari as a god of magic and ruler of those who wear the white robes. Rhett Davis (lyrics and titles), not knowing his lore, stated in interviews that 'Solinari' was a black moon; 'Solinari' is the name of the white moon, while 'Nuitari' is the name of the black moon and probably the real intended album title since the artwork shows the black moon.
