[edit] Fictonal character history
Morgaine Le Fey is the ancient and diabolical sorceress of Arthurian legends. Her history is slightly different from the legends but she is a sorceress gifted in the arts of black magic. She uses her gifts without restraint and is quite willing to destroy the universe in order to gain more power.
In the waning days of Camelot, Merlin transformed his demon familiar Etrigan into a man, Jason Blood, who lost his memory of his Demon identity. By the 20th Century, Morgaine Le Fey, Merlin's adversary, has arisen anew and tricks Morgaine, causing her to lose her youth and beauty which she had preserved using her magics. She wishes to replenish her youth with Merlin's secrets. She forces Jason Blood to become the Demon again and to lead her to Merlin's tomb. The Demon eventually strives to keep Morgaine Le Fey from restoring her youth with the powers of Merlin.
In Batman Family #17, the Huntress’s use of the Justice League transporter frees Morgaine Le Fey (who captures the Philosopher’s Stone). Le Fey seeks a baby with latent demon powers in the maternity ward where Man-Bat’s wife is giving birth. Several women give birth to demon-babies as a result. The Demon also appears, and together he and Man-Bat defeat Le Fey. This story took place in pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity.
Morgaine later attempts to steal Wonder Women's eternal youth, not realising that Wonder Women has already given it up. Her spell backfires and she disintegrates into dust. She returns to battle the Demon on many occasions, and has also become a foe to Wonder Woman. In pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity, her daughter Morgana also battled Wonder Woman.
[edit] Powers and Abilities
- Magic: Morgaine Le Fey is a sorceress skilled in the use of black magic. She has cast spells that are able to control even the strongest of supernatural beings. She was able to transport Wonder Woman to another dimension (The Nether Plane) and fight her for her Amazonian fighting skills. By using a device she was able to magically view individuals from miles away. Morgaine also possesses a machine capable of binding beings and stealing their Immortal life forces.
- Immortality: Morgaine is immortal although she claimed to have lost this ability. As shown in the Wonder Woman comic, she must "steal" immortality from other immortals in order to maintain her youth. After Merlin robs her of her youth and beauty she wears a golden armour to shield her withered and ancient body.
[edit] Other Versions
Another Morgan le Fay variant was the primary antagonist in the 1983 DC limited series entitled Camelot 3000.

- A version of the character has appeared in both the Justice League episode "A Knight of Shadows" and in the Justice League Unlimited animated series episode "Kid Stuff". In both series she is said to be the mother to Mordred, her eternal child. She is voiced by Olivia d'Abo.
