Morebattle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Morebattle is a village in the Scottish Borders.
[edit] Origins of place-name
The place-name comes from the botl (hamlet) on the mere (the nearby Linton Loch of ancient times). No evidence of any battles (the simplistic origin) exists!
Similarily, the village's Teapot Street is more likely to be named after the midden (rubbish dump) at the end of the road - Tippit Street, than any legends about Sir Walter Scott seeing someone pouring their tealeaves down the open drain.
