Morbe Dam

The Morbe dam is being built over the Dhawri tributary of Patalganga river, near Karjat by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and is near its completion. It is 3,250 metres long, 450 metres wide and 53.4 metres high.It is Earth dam. The Reservoir capacity is 190.89 MCM

Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran started the construction of Morbe dam in 1999 so that water can be supplied toNahva- Sheva region and NMMC area. MJP is a leading organisation under the Maharashtra government that supplies water to rural and urban parts of the state. In 2002 Government of Maharashtra (GOM) permitted NMMC to take over the Morbe dam. [1].

Once the Morbe dam is ready,it will have Supply capacity of 450ML per day .NMMC will supply water not only in Navi Mumbai but also to other corporations and generate an average revenue of Rs 25 crore per year.

The Morbe dam will affect 11 villages in the surrounding areas and 776 families will be affected most by it.According to the 1981 census calculations, about 2,897 persons have been affected by the project.
